CHARLESTON, WV – More than 70 high schools across West Virginia will recognize seniors who have committed to continuing their education or training after graduation through “College Decision Day” events, which will run from April until June. This campaign, coordinated annually through College for West Virginia (CFWV), provides schools with the opportunity to celebrate students who have committed to entering a certificate program, a career or technical program, a two- or four-year degree program, an apprenticeship program or military service.
“Every year through College Decision Day events, we have the opportunity to celebrate students who have made the life-changing commitment to keep learning,” said Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker, West Virginia’s Chancellor of Higher Education. “This decision is something to be really proud of, something to applaud, and something that everyone around these young people – teachers, fellow students, family and friends – are eager to celebrate. Through College Decision Day, we’re letting them know that all of West Virginia is cheering them on too.”

College Decision Day is one of CFWV’s three college-planning milestones. The statewide FAFSA Completion Campaign, which began October 1, promotes completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the first step toward unlocking funds for college. And, last fall, College Application & Exploration Week prompted students of all ages to explore college options while assisting students who will attend college this fall in applying to their chosen schools. Schools that participate in all three milestones and meet other criteria will be recognized this fall as a CFWV Champion of College Access and Success.
College for West Virginia, or CFWV, is a statewide college readiness and career planning initiative managed by West Virginia’s Higher Education Policy Commission and the Community and Technical College System.
