What is Mechatronics?
A combination of knowledge regarding mechanical engineering technology with knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits to design, develop, test, and manufacture electronic and computer-controlled mechanical systems, such as robotic assembly machines. They also operate these machines in factories and other worksites. Their work often overlaps that of both electrical and electronic engineering technicians and mechanical engineering technicians.
Job Prospects In Mechatronics?
Despite labor projections of 3,300 fewer manufacturing jobs over the next decade, WorkForceWV and manufacturing employers both report a critical need for “goldcollar” jobs for employees with computer skills, computer numerical controls, electrical, and mechanical skills, referred to collectively here as mechatronics technicians. As mechatronics jobs cut across and are only part of numerous SOC classifications, federal and state labor market information, which shows 600 available jobs annually across various classifications, is far from perfect.
